Special Events in Baltimore

Otakon is hosted in the Baltimore Convention Center each summer to bring together fans of anime, manga and other aspects of Japanese pop culture. It features guest authors and artists, actors and other celebrities as well as movie screenings, panels, concerts, fashion shows and much more.

In addition, Artists and other craftsmen can set up booths in the Artists' Alley, which is reserved specifically for individual authors, artists and others. In Dealer's Hall, large-volume businesses have booths set up. All food sales inside the convention center are handled by in-house catering.

Baltimore Book Festival
The Baltimore Book Festival is hosted in the Mount Vernon neighborhood each fall as a way to bring together authors, artists, booksellers, libraries and arts groups. It features hundreds of exhibitors as well as author panels and book signings, street theater, music, demonstrations and more.

The festival specializes in hosting specialty food vendors, kids' activities and arts & crafts booths. Admission is free for everyone and every effort is made to ensure accessibility for disabled patrons.

Flicks From The Hill
Flicks from the Hill is an open-air film series presented each summer by the American Visionary Art Museum. Every Thursday night AVAM offers a free screening of movies inspired by or related to a current exhibition at the museum.

These screenings are free for everyone and open to the public; no registration is required. All movies are shown on Federal Hill in good weather and patrons are welcome to bring picnics with them.

African American Festival
The AAF is an annual Baltimore event designed to celebrate African American music, culture and history. Live entertainment is the highlight of the festival, though there are also contests, educational seminars, health screenings, cultural exhibits and much more.

The AAF is free to the public and hosted in the M&T Bank Stadium. There are kids' activities available and a several food and drink vendors on-site.

Baltimore Summer Antiques Show
Held in August each year, the Baltimore Summer Antiques Show is the nation's largest indoor event of its kind, hosting over 500 dealers and several hundred thousand visitors. The focus of the show is buying and selling antique glassware, jewelry, art, furniture, books and more, but there are also free trade lectures open to the public.

There is an admission fee to the show but pre-registration is not required.
